“Learn to like what doesn't cost much.
Learn to like reading, conversation, music.
Learn to like plain food, plain service, plain cooking.
Learn to like fields, trees, brooks, hiking, rowing, climbing hills.
Learn to like people, even though some of them may be different...different from you.
Learn to like to work and enjoy the satisfaction doing your job as well as it can be done.
Learn to like the song of birds, the companionship of dogs.
Learn to like gardening, puttering around the house, and fixing things.
Learn to like the sunrise and sunset, the beating of rain on the roof and windows, and the gentle fall of snow on a winter day.
Learn to keep your wants simple and refuse to be controlled by the likes and dislikes of others.”

July 1, Letter

Germany treats me well!! I just love it here. The people are great! I know everyone thinks of Germans as cold, but that's just the front they put up.

The MINUTE you smile and say ''Hallo'', their face lights up SIGNIFICANTLY.

It brings me so much joy.

So let me just go through my week!

It rained quite a bit, which I actually don't mind at all! Especially since I have that stellar rain coat! So we did a lot of inside area book work when it rained.

Ready for rain

Then Sister T got really sick and it changed a lot of our plans. So while she slept, we just studied and planned. It was Sister S’s birthday on Thursday, and we ate a delicious dinner at the a member's home. They are a couple from South Africa and they are the best!

We also have 4 English students that we meet throughout the week! G and RM on Thursdays and M and J on Saturday nights. None of them are members, so it's a great way to maybe spark some interest.

A few highlights of my week have been...
-buying a pair of ridiculous onsie pajamas. They are HEAVEN I TELL YOU!
-visiting with Schwester N and preparing her to go to the temple
-meeting other Americans in Germany
-Talking with Sister Kosak (presidents wife), and realizing that she has a great sense of humor.
-Bearing testimony.
-RITTER SPORT SALES! only 50 cents for a bar!!! (Ahem... expect chocolate soon)
-watching the missionary broadcast. Go watch it! Everyone! It was incredible.

Things are going.... okay with Herr M. We didn't meet with him this week, but we did have an eating appointment with him at a member’s house yesterday. There is so much he needs to learn.

I know the gospel is TRUE!

Here is a quote from the Priesthood session - Pres. Uchtdorf's talk - that I just love!

''... While the atonement is meant to help us all become more like Christ, it is not meant to make us all the same. Sometimes we confuse differences in personality with sin. We can even make the mistake of thinking that because someone is different from us it must mean they are not pleasing to God. This line of thinking leads some to believe that the church wants to create every member from a single mold- that each one should look, feel, think and behave like every other. This would contradict the GENIUS of GOD, who created every man different from his brother, woman different from her sister, every son or daughter different from their parent....''

I love my family so much! Thanks for your prayers. I really felt them this week. Ya'll are the best.

Much love from Germany!

Sister Norton
