Psych. Life is a big flirt fest from the time you turn 12,
and those hormones start kickin in.
It's interesting to be a part of this, but more interesting to observe, and i've been doing a little bit of both over the years, and collected some useful knowledge.
It's like a video game.
You have to pass the easy levels to move on to the next round.
The older (farther) you get, the harder it is to get by using the same pick up methods you used in the first round. Everyone knows the tricks,
so you have to be more discrete.
Level one (Junior High 7-9 grade)
- Lots of hitting involved (love taps)
- Giggles. The high pitched ones.
- Boys tend to tease, because that's their nature.
- Lots of side torso poking.
- Overall, it's just an embarrassment. No one understands the opposite gender yet.
- You "hang out" and play those games that involve some sort of physical contact, and blow it out of proportion. "Tag, you're it" turns into "Hug/tackle, I got you."
Level two (10&12 grade)
- Your moves are more complicated. Cheesy pick up lines are the usual.
- Smiling way too much, just begging for wrinkles (don't worry, I love smiles)
- Batting the eyelashes.
- The elbow touch, Trust me girls, gets 'em every time. I've used it.
- If your moves aren't so sly, pretend "fighting" is common (such as slapping, pushing, tackling etc. Anything that involves physical contact).
- Not too embarrassing to yourself, but still enough that when you look back on all of it, you feel completely mental.
Level three (college/singles ward) I'm still trying to figure it out.
- Small talk. That comes first if you are not previously associated. Schooling, mission, family etc. Starts with a handshake (it's very sophisticated looking. Demonstration of advanced moves)
- Future plans. Don't want to get involved if they're going on a mission, right? Or moving to Nebraska? Nope.
- The "sort-of-determines-your-relationship" question: "Are you dating anyone?"
- If doing out-doorsy things, you encourage them, and make them feel great. But just enough, that your teasing doesn't seem too harsh.
- While in church, back scratching and playing with hair is an easy way to see who's really paying attention.
- The men are usually very gentlemen like. Being their very best. Because it's serious now. No girl wants a guy as a husband if he keeps poking your mid-torso.
- Girls giddyness has tuned down a couple notches, but it's still there
See my point?
Exactly like a video game. Trying to get to the last level. MARRIAGE. It's the big boss, and everyone will have to face it sometime. Your victory just depends on how good your flirting moves are. Let's be real though.

I don't know it all, but I've pretty much figured it out.
